Sound Recording
The sound recording program at soundSCAPE seeks to offer significant artistic and professional learning opportunities for music engineers through hands-on participation in concert recordings, recording sessions, live sound reinforcement, and other technical demands of the festival.
Recording
The soundSCAPE calendar is a busy one… In a typical festival we present the premieres of over 40 works. Together with other concerts by faculty and participants, this results in 10+ recording sessions. Sound recording participants are given lead roles in these professional recording sessions and post-production under the guidance of faculty member Kseniya Kawko.
Lessons
Participants receive individual lessons tailored to their current level of experience. These sessions offer focused feedback on personal projects, opportunities to explore post-production in depth, and space for thoughtful discussion about sound recording techniques and approaches.
Lecture Series
Faculty from the composition, performance, and sound recording areas regularly offer presentations on their creative and professional work. Composition faculty provide analytical perspectives on recent and past works; performance faculty address topics such as complex rhythms, vocal writing, and improvisation; and technical faculty present current trends in audio production and music technology. Sound Recording participants are welcome to attend any of the available lectures and to participate fully in all festival events.
Who should apply to the Sound Recording program?
Participants are selected from around the world, and applicants with a wide range of backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Are you a musician interested in developing your technical skills? We are happy to meet you where you are. Are you a developing audio engineer looking to refine your craft? Excellent. Are you an established engineer seeking an introduction to production in an acoustic music recording context? That works too.
The composition and performance programs bring together musicians from diverse aesthetics and experiences, offering many opportunities to learn from and collaborate with one another.
How do I apply?
Applicants should fill out the online application form, including a description of their musical and production background. Links to recordings or projects you have worked on are welcome
Work-Study Opportunities
Sound Recording participants are eligible for all general fellowships. In addition, the festival provides financial support to students with experience in video recording who can assist in capturing concert performances.
